2021 CONCERT PROGRAMME

We are delighted that we are open again with an extraordinary programme for our audience to enjoy.

In order to keep everybody safe, we advice to follow these recommendations when attending the concerts:

  • Please wear a mask in the concert and use hand gel when entering the church. 
  • The concert will be limited to 1 hour, no interval and no drinks.
  • The toilets will not be available
  • Doors must be open throughout the concert and there will be no heating, so wear warm clothing.
  • There will be no seat cushions on the pews.

Black Market Quartet - Jazz

Join the band (guitar, violin, double bass and drums) for an evening of jazz standards and modern jazz, plus their own special take on some popular contemporary songs.

The band took its name from a Weather Report tune in the set, Black Market.

The current set has some Jazz standards included, some Klezmer and a Jig and a Reel or two to get the toes tapping, but with the addition of some surprises. Ed Sheeran, Christina Perri and even The Police get the Black Market treatment.

Pete Hibbit

After a 20 year career touring the world as a Progressive Rock drummer, Pete spent 5 years studying music at University.  Needing an instrument other than drums and with the courses leading toward Jazz, Pete took up guitar and has been playing ever since. 

Stefan Defilet

Stefan Defilet studied violin at Trinity College of Music London, and has had a varied career since graduating in 2000 including  4 years with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. He plays electric violin with "The Bomo Swing" who play at festivals nationwide  and he leads his own "Alani String Quartet". Stefan teaches violin at Poole Grammar, Bournemouth University and privately at home. 

Jan Evans

The powerhouse behind the band. A Big Band drummer with a Big Band sound. Jan has played with the best of them including  Don Lusher, Salena Jones, Elaine Delmar, and many more from all genres.

Ben Taylor

Ben Taylor is an experienced and established musician and also a highly reputable string instrument technician. He has played double bass for a number of years and has performed in various prestigious venues, festivals and radio, appearing alongside some of the UK’s top jazz musicians. He is known as a virtuosic, dynamic and a reliable foundation in a number of rhythm sections across the South Coast of England.
