As you know, we are unable to have our usual Glyndebourne at Beaulieu performance this year due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
However we are delighted to say that Virtual Glyndebourne at Beaulieu 2020 put together by Music at Beaulieu and Wessex Glyndebourne Association creating an online concert in 3 parts that will be published in July 2020. The three videos will be displayed in this page on the specific dates/times of release shown below.
The singers are all former members of the Glyndebourne chorus who have gone on to develop successful careers in opera. The accompanist is Matthew Fletcher from the Glyndebourne music staff, who has performed at the Beaulieu concert for the past several years.
The artists will be performing from their own homes, even while singing together in the ensemble pieces. The accompaniments were all recorded courtesy of Glyndebourne, who made available one of their recital rooms. Thus, as well as providing enjoyable entertainment, the concert will be a reminder of the limitations we have all been experiencing because of the Covid-19 crisis.
Here is the programme for each of the three parts of the concert:
I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls (Balfe—The Bohemian Girl)
O wie Ängstlich (Mozart—Die Entführung aus dem Serail)
Pafto, parto (Mozart—La Clemenza di Tito)
Dio, Che Nell'alma Infondere Amor (Verdi—Don Carlo)
Quel guardo il cavaliere (Donizetti—Don Pasquale)

Madamina, il catalogo e questo (Mozart—Don Giovanni)

Parigi o cara (Verdi—La Traviata)
Song to the Moon (Dvořàk—Rusalka)
Come Away, Death (Quilter—Three Shakespeare Songs)

The artists taking part are:
Aoife O’Sullivan (soprano)
Victoria Simmonds (mezzo-soprano)
Paul Hopwood (Tenor)
Timothy Dickinson (bass-baritone)
Matthew Fletcher (accompanist)
Aoife, Victoria and Timothy are all former Wessex award winners. Matthew has been accompanist for the past several years at Beaulieu. All four singers were members of the Glyndebourne Festival chorus at an early stage in their careers, and Matthew regularly performs the role of répétiteur at Glyndebourne.
